Just wanted to post that I made the chicken roll ups for lunch and they were a HUGE hit with my picky eater, my husband. He has a rare week day off today, so he got to eat lunch at home. He’s normally adverse to trying new things, and if he doesn’t like something once he generally won’t try a different version of the same thing. Unfortunately my mil isn’t the best cook, so for example he doesn’t like the frozen lasagna he was fed growing up so he won’t try my mom’s recipe that came from an Italian lady who was friends with my grandma that takes half a day to make. Most tips for picky eaters are meant for children, so, assuming he wasn’t upset by me infantizing him, making something shaped like a smiley face or a silly name won’t fool him. He was hesitant to try the roll ups, but after one bite pronounced them delicious and went back for seconds! He actually said that if he could have things like that for lunch, he’d be open to packing his lunch for work instead of going out every day.

I was finishing up our taxes last night and in working with all of the financial reports (I use Quicken), I decided to do a quick report showing our grocery expenses for the entire year – even though I had a good idea what it would show. When I compare my expenses with the USDA national average (you can see that here: http://www.cnpp.usda.gov/usdafoodcost-home.htm), mine are below the lowest cost plan average for our family size (and I feed one extra little 5 days per week). Since probably 75% of our food is organic, I am pretty happy with that! And it’s thanks in no small part to the awesome menus that we get that even include recipes for making homemade breads, mixes, and seasonings.

Just wanted to say we have been a member for about a month now and have tried quite a few of your recipes and they have all been a big hit (even with the younger ones!) Last night we had the Mac ‘n’ Cheese with Cauliflower and I never would ever have thought to make macaroni cheese with yoghurt!!!! How light and lovely that was. Best Mac ‘n’ Cheese I’ve ever made. And we had the lemon cheesecake in a glass (as it’s become known at our house) again this morning for breakfast. We’re addicted!!!!!

My almost ten year old daughter actually does most of the breakfast and lunch cooking based on the menu’s. This is part of our homeschooling. She is learning math, measurements, cooking, budgeting, soo many valuable skills :) We tend to cook together, she works on the lunch while I load up the crock or prepare the dinner things ahead of time.  Holly H.

I made the carrot muffins (week of April 8) on for the first time on Monday. I had a bunch of carrots I bought on sale that were about to go bad! Everyone loved them. As my 7-year-old was gobbling his 3rd muffin, he said, “Mom, all this new stuff you’re making is awesome! I just wanted to personally thank you for the inspiration of your grocery shrink website. I happened upon it accidentally and it has blessed our family already. I started tracking all of our spending in January and it shocked me that we would spend $1000 to $1400 a month on groceries. Add in restaurants and we were pushing 1500 to 1600 a month. The crazy thing is that even with all that money spent on groceries I still wondered what I was going to do for dinner. While we do have a family of six (four kids 13, 11, 10, and 8) with children who love to eat I knew something HAD to change. I was skeptical at first as I have tried many other methods and failed. Well I am happy to say that this past pay day (hubby is in the military) I was shocked to find I had only spent $128 and only need about $40 more, if that, to complete the meals until the 15th. My husband has thoroughly enjoyed the meals and he usually doesnt brag about food. While we have yet to implement the breakfast and lunch menus I have been very pleasantly surprised that my family has been full and there is still money in the bank. :)

We started using your menu plan this morning – starting on Thursday instead of this past Sunday because it takes me a while to get everything together and it was just too soon for me to start then. We skipped ahead to Friday’s breakfast because I would like to make the burritos for Saturday morning – something quick to grab out of the fridge to bring along yard sale-ing. Plus Daddy will be home and I like to make the more fun or extravagant things when he is there to eat them. My girls are four and under, so they will eat just about anything. I wanted to personally tell you how much I have been loving the GSP menu plans. We have a family of 8, and my baby was 3 weeks old when I got your email about offering GSP menus, and it took me about 10 seconds to figure out that I was totally IN. Your plans have been incredible!! Not only has the food been delicious (and whole-foods oriented), my mind is now freed to be creative in other areas and focus on the rest of my life. There is no lingering part of my brain that is thinking about what I will serve for the next meal.
